Total E&P Canada Overview

Total E&P Canada Ltd is a Calgary-based energy company focused on oil and gas exploration and production, and upgrading in the Athabasca Oil Sands region of Alberta.

We are a wholly owned subsidiary of Total SAexternal link: new window (Total), the world’s fourth largest publicly traded integrated energy company, based in Paris, France.  As part of the Total global energy group, Total E&P Canada brings a strong balance sheet, world-wide operational experience, best practices, innovation and new technology to the Athabasca Oil Sands, as well as a proven commitment to sustainable development.

As part of Total’s global research and technology development network, we are investing significantly in oil sands research to improve efficiencies and reduce our environmental footprint here and abroad. We are also supporting a number of research projects throughout Canada's universities.

Supporting a Sustainable Future

Total E&P Canada’s goal is to build a strong, sustainable position in the Athabasca region through the expansion of our current joint venture Surmont Asset, through our interests in the Fort Hills Asset and Voyageur Upgrader Project, and through production of the Total-operated Joslyn and Northern Lights assets. We will continue to pursue future opportunities and partnerships as part of our long term growth strategy to expand our Canadian portfolio.

The Canadian oil sands are crucial to the global energy supply. As we build our operations here, we are committed to delivering top environmental, social and economic performance. That is what we are known for globally and we will continue to cultivate that same reputation here.

— Jean-Michel Gires, President & CEO, Total E&P Canada
( see a message from Mr. Gires about Total E&P Canada's goals & commitments )

Our belief in the long-term future of the Canadian oil sands is so strong that we have embarked on one of the largest investment projects in Total SA’s history. Over the 2010 decade, Total E&P Canada will make up to a $20 billion capital investment into Alberta’s economy. In doing so, we plan to grow to 1,500 employees by 2020.

Investing in Communities

Although our Total-operated projects are still in the design and engineering phases, we are committed to stakeholder engagement and the long-term betterment of the communities in which we live and operate. Since 2009, Total has invested more than $5 million to support community organizations in Fort McMurray and Calgary.

Building a Team

Our employees are our greatest strength and we are proud to build a team in Canada committed to the long-term sustainable development of the Athabasca Oil Sands.
