Air and Climate Change

Climate change and greenhouse gases are growing societal concerns, and at Total E&P Canada we are serious about managing our cumulative effects and emissions. We are continually researching and testing new and innovative ways to reduce CO2 emissions and improve energy efficiency at our oil sands projects.

A Greenhouse Gas Management Plan is being developed for our Joslyn Asset and will include an emissions monitoring measurement program. The Asset will also be constructed to be carbon capture ready, building on the world class research from Total’s carbon capture and storage (CCS) project in Lacq, France.

Our Calgary Research Centre also invests in a number of research programs at Canadian universities and government labs, and participates in joint industry CCS projects focused on reducing emissions.

Total has also established a cross functional climate change working group, whose mandate is to conduct engineering studies aimed at evaluating energy efficiencies and alternative fuel options for our facilities.
