Land and Biodiversity

What We're Saying

At Total E&P Canada, we plan for the reclamation of the land at the same time as we plan for project development. The plan involves environmental protection at the outset, including setting aside corridors for local wildlife, building a permanent freshwater lake, and reconstructing a stream.

Committed to preserving biodiversity and addressing stakeholder concerns, we have partnered with the Alberta Conservation Association to set aside conservation lands in the boreal region of Alberta.

Total’s management of biodiversity issues are an integral part of our oil sands strategy and operations, beginning at project design.

What Others are Saying

Total has shown great leadership with this initiative. It is clear that the company is genuinely interested in environmental preservation as it is doing this on a voluntary basis. Total is among the first companies in Alberta to purchase offset land. I'm looking forward to working together on bigger and longer term initiatives like this.

Dr. Todd Zimmerling, President, Alberta Conservation Association

In 2007, Total partnered with Alberta Conservation Association (ACA) on their boreal habitat conservation initiative, a program to help offset environmental footprints made by companies in the Athabasca Oil Sands.
