Environmental Participation in the Region

Total E&P Canada participates in regional stakeholder groups that develop policy and strategies to address some of the today’s most pressing environmental challenges. As an oil sands developer, it is crucial for us to engage our stakeholders in dialogue and be transparent and sensitive to their concerns.

Total has implemented a Stakeholder Relations Management (SRM+) system which relies on extensive monitoring, consultation and consensus building. Built on the best practices learned from Total projects all over the world, our methodology engages stakeholders in a meaningful way and monitors and manages their concerns over the life of a project.

We are a member of, and contributor to, major environmental and socioeconomic initiatives at the local, provincial and national level. An example is the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute (ABMI). Based at the University of Alberta, the ABMI’s mandate is to provide information on the state of Alberta’s biodiversity in order to facilitate the responsible management of the environment.
