Feb, 08 . 06

CALGARY - Deer Creek Energy Limited (Deer Creek), a wholly owned subsidiary of Total E&P Canada Ltd., today announces filing of a regulatory application for the development of the Joslyn North Mine Project (Project), located approximately 70 kilometers north of the city of Fort McMurray, in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, Alberta. The Joslyn North Mine Project represents another step in the overall lease development as outlined in Deer Creek’s Public Disclosure Document of June 2004.

The Project is designed to produce 100,000 barrels per day of bitumen, over a 27 year period, with the first bitumen production planned for 2010. Project sanction, scheduled to occur in the second half of 2007, will trigger about 4.2 million person-hours of construction labour on site from the end of 2007 for six years. At full production, approximately 750 full time employees will be required to operate the mine, extraction plant and related facilities.

Total E&P Canada Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary of the global oil and gas company Total SA. In September 2005, Total E&P Canada Ltd. acquired Deer Creek, a company with 84% of the Joslyn lease and an ultimate potential in the excess of 200 kb/d. Total E&P Canada Ltd. is also 50% owner of the non-operated Surmont oil sands project (ConocoPhillips operator), with an ultimate production potential of more than 200 kb/d and is the 100% owner of additional oil sands leases to be explored and exploited over the years to come. It is Total's intention that its oil sands development projects will include downstream operations.
