The Asset is located in the Athabasca region of Alberta, approximately 100 kilometres northeast of Fort McMurray. Total E&P Canada owns a 50% operated interest in the Northern Lights Asset, acquired through the purchase of Synenco Energy Inc. in 2008. Sinopec Corporation, a Chinese company, holds the remaining 50% stake through its subsidiary, SinoCanada Petroleum Corporation.

Status: Northern Lights Project

The latest estimate of contingent resources of the Northern Lights Project published by Synenco is 1.08 billion barrels of bitumen to be recovered using mining techniques. The Project has been fully integrated into Total's Canadian portfolio and its future development is now part of the long-term plans of the company.
